The sounds of Toy Story

There are three categories of sound. The first category is dialogue. The dialogue is the speech between the characters in the movie.  Dialogue is very important to the film.  It helps the movie seem more interesting. Writers try to make the interaction between the characters as realistic as possible. The second type of sound is sound effects. A sound effect is a sound that is made artificially and applied to actions in a film. Sound effects keep the audience interested in watching the movie. It draws attention to the movie. The last category of sound is music. Music is probably the most recognized sound in movies.  Music is played throughout the movie. Sound helps establish mood of the movie. If a movie is sad, somber music in the background helps the audience feel emotion and recognizes the theme.

Buzz falls out the window.

The film Toy Story is a great example of the three types of sounds in film. Being an animated film for children Toy Story is filled with many sound effects. The sound effects help the child audience stay interested in the movie in the scene where buzz light year falls out of the window, everything from the push pins hitting the table, the wheels of the RC car, to the lamp moving has a sound. The music in the background also swells letting the audience know that it was a dramatic scene.  Sound is important to any movie genre. The sound in Toy Story is realistic. Pixar is known for having great sound in their movies. The only sound that was unrealistic was the famous Wilhelm scream that you hear when Buzz is knocked out of the window. I can’t seem to imagine any animated movie without music in the background. Without the music the scene would be dull and lack emotion. Also many people thoughts seem to wander when there is just talking and they miss what is happening. The music keeps the focus on the film.
